If your organisation is ready to move beyond ad-hoc fundraising efforts and build a sustainable, strategic and proactive grant funding approach, FUNCAP is for you. It specifically looks at grant funding from philantropic trusts and foundations.
FUNCAP is our comprehensive capacity development program that helps non-profits transform their fundraising mindset and practice. Through an interactive (and fun!) blend of hands-on training and personalized coaching, FUNCAP walks you through every stage of the grant cycle—equipping your team with the skills, tools, and confidence to raise more funds from trusts and foundations.
FUNCAP is practical and action-oriented. You’ll receive targeted training sessions and one-on-one coaching tailored specifically to your organisation’s context. You won’t just learn—you’ll build real strategies, tools, and materials that can be immediately applied. And with full access to the TripleFunds donor database, you’ll have a solid donor research database at your fingertips.
It focuses on grant fundraising from philanthropic actors like trusts and foundations, including international charitable foundations that provide grants, such as family and corporate foundations or public foundations. However, the knowledge and context covered can also be applied to institutional donors, including government agencies, funds, or development banks.
The Training Modules
Each training module can be delivered online (3.5 hours for one module) or day face-to-face (o.5-1 day per module). Here’s what you can expect from each module:
Module 0: Theory of Change – Find Your Why
Every successful fundraising strategy begins with clarity. In this foundational module, we help you articulate your organisation’s Theory of Change—your problem, your solution, and the impact you aim to create. Through training and coaching, you’ll develop a compelling impact model that becomes the core of your proposals, donor communications, and pitch materials. It’s your story—refined, focused, and ready to inspire.
Module 1: Identification – Know Where to Look
A strong strategy means knowing which donors are right for you. This module supports you in crafting a simple yet effective fundraising strategy and mapping out relevant donor markets. You’ll learn how to use powerful research tools—including the FUNCAP Tool and TripleFunds database—to identify and prioritise potential funders based on your goals, sectors, and geography. By the end, you’ll have a focused donor pipeline and a strategy to approach them.
Module 2: Cultivation – Build Relationships that Last
Fundraising isn’t just about writing proposals—it’s about people. In this module, you’ll learn how to engage and build trust with potential funders before the ask. We help you audit your external communications (website, social media, reports), build detailed cultivation strategies, and master the ‘five moves’—from LinkedIn networking to creating persuasive emails and pitch decks as well as events and phone calls.
Module 3: Solicitation – Write Proposals That Win
Once a funder is interested, you need a proposal that makes your case clearly and convincingly. Here, we support you in developing and reviewing proposals, designing impact models, and preparing strong budgets. You’ll also create a versatile pitch deck and learn how to create visuals in Canva. Everything is geared towards creating applications that stand out—in voice, structure, and layout.
Module 4: Stewardship – Turn One-Time Funders into Long-Term Partners
Getting the grant is only the beginning. This final module focuses on maintaining and deepening donor relationships through strategic reporting, regular communication, and preparation for future funding opportunities. We’ll help you build a stewardship calendar, review your reports, and design a simple Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) framework so you can demonstrate your impact and grow donor trust over time.
